Space to Build Your Community.
Group Residency at New Women Space is a program dedicated to providing a supportive, resourceful and consistent space for organizers to build their communities. Group Residency at New Women Space supports emerging community organizers – leaders who are working with their communities to create change, addressing issues and challenging the status quo relating to the lived experiences of women, femme, queer, transgender and gender nonconforming people in unique and innovative ways. The program selects up to 5 community-minded emerging leaders from around the 5 boroughs for a 12-month, in-house program, designed to deepen the impact of their work and inspire new relationships within our greater community to grow.
New Women Space Group Residents Are:
Residents are working alongside their communities to approach issues related to their specific identities in creative and meaningful ways. Living out NWS’s values of accessibility and anti-oppression, Residents are bringing new ideas and perspectives to the way we build community together. By engaging their communities in this work, they create stronger and more sustainable solutions for us all.
Residents are incorporating collaborative and multi-disciplinary approaches to create new ways to gather. Group Residency provides a space for Organizers across disciplines to learn from one another, ultimately making their own work more impactful.
Ready to Grow and Build
Residents have already demonstrated direct and meaningful impact in their communities and may have begun gaining recognition among their peers for their work. Residents who will benefit the most fromt his program are poised to use the Residency to significantly advance their work, perhaps by launching new platforms, expanding their reach, establishing new models and standards of facilitation that others can adopt.
Emerging, but not Beginners
Group Residency is designed to support Organizers who have not already benefited from larger opportunities or wide attention. We’re excited to lift up Community Organizers who are not yet connected to the networks and resources they need to advance their work but have just begun their journey in building their community.

Residents demonstrate the values of New Women Space. By focusing intensively on how to make space more accessible to all bodies and identities, Residents build an authentic, inclusive, and collaborative foundation that provides lasting change and value to the entire community.

When you submit your application materials, you affirm that the information presented is accurate to the best of your knowledge. Applications that are accepted will be followed by a round of interviews.
Selection at the Discretion of the NWS Programming and Operations Team
New Women Space shall select, at its sole discretion, which applicants advance in the 2019 Group Residency selection process.

Attendance for the full duration of the 12-month Residency gatherings + trainings is mandatory. Residents must also be able to meet the ongoing time commitments of the Residency. For more information on the time commitment involved, see our FAQs.
